The Basu residence is a holistic conversion and update of an existing Victorian Terraced house is London.
The concept and driver for the house is one of light. We have introduced a vertical light column or canyon which splits the old rear outrigger and the main house. Bridges and staircases cross the light column offering both connectivity through the house but also natural light to the heart of the plan. Mirrored surfaces will amplify the light and also provide shadows and reflection s throughout the day. A timber louvered wrap provide shading and privacy.
Internally, white in-situ concrete and bamboo are proposed for the kitchen, joinery and double height reading area to the basement. The concrete kitchen top wraps down and forms a desk and also a floor. This concrete floor also creates a new rear glazed dining room. The glazed nature of the dining room allows the garden to appear within the kitchen and also gives front to back views through the house.
The project is due to be completed in March 2016.
